To Mink Or Not To Mink?

Updated: Jun 13, 2018

Welcome to Chanellashes blog page. First things first there are a lot of myths and misconceptions when it comes to eyelash extensions and the application process. People tend to think this way when they don't understand the application process fully. They tend to think that the application process is painful or that your natural eyelashes will be damaged or fall out. I am here to educate the uneducated about how eyelash extensions work.

Respect The Process

Performing an eyelash extension procedure requires patience and skill. When the lash artist is ready to place the extensions, it is important they make sure that they are working in a clean environment. Preparing the client by making sure that her eyes are free from makeup and oil-based skin care products. The lashes especially should be clean. Place the lash extensions that you need on a large glass plate or lash ring that can serve as a palette. Make sure they are separated and easy to pick up using your tweezers. It is a good idea to wear gloves and a ply face mask throughout the eyelash extension procedure. Having the separated and easy to see allows you to make sure that the extensions are within easy reach. It also looks professional and well laid out.

Types Of Eyelash Extentions

Eyelash extensions are made of synthetic material, real/faux silk fibers, or real/faux mink fur.

Mink Eyelash Extensions

Mink lashes are real hair from mink fur and provide the most natural look and feel lightweight on the lash.  It’s important to note that while the lash is made from actual animal fur, the animal is not harmed when the hairs are harvested.  Nevertheless, some people are understandably uncomfortable about using animal products for these purposes and in that case, there are other lash options available.

Faux Mink Eyelash Extensions

While made of synthetic material, faux mink lashes are incredibly similar to the real thing and are thin, soft and very natural looking most of the time hard to tell the difference between the two.  For those who want the more natural look but prefer to avoid animal products, this is a great option. The great benefit of the faux mink lash is that it is much more hard wearing than mink lashes and so the amount of work required to maintain the lash is much less.  Clients can go about their daily routine without worrying about the lashes and without the need to reapply the lash curl after showers, etc.

Silk Eyelash Extensions

Even though they are referred to as silk lashes, this type of lash is almost always made from synthetic material  However, the reason for dealing with this type of lash separately from other synthetic lashes is that it has quite a different finish and look. The final outcome will most likely be a little more thicker and voluminous.

Synthetic Eyelash Extensions

This type of eyelash extension includes silk lashes and faux mink lashes. The main attraction with synthetics is that they are fuller and thicker is size. Since this type of extension is thicker and fuller they are a little less comfortable to wear than the regular faux mink set.

Choosing the right extensions

Eyelash extensions has an impact on a persons overall look. When considering the right option for you, one thing to keep in mind is whether you are the type of person who is used to wearing a lot of make-up.  Some clients do and others prefer the bare minimum, it’s really just a matter of personal choice.  But, if you like to keep a classic look, then a more natural look may be most appropriate for you, which usually means mink or faux mink eyelash extensions.
